We are blessed to have so many amazing partners to help us with our ministry. There are so many volunteers, companies, and churches that help us in so many ways that we can not even begin to tell you all of them. One of partner churches, Amplify, created this video to tell their congregation more about the work we do in our streets ministry.

They had a video crew spend an entire Saturday with one of our regular volunteers to capture what a typical Saturday with HIM minsitries feels like.

Thank you Amplify for sharing with us. We are excited to share it with you. we hope you enjoy it as much as we have.

Pittsburgh Street Ministry

Since August of 1994, HIM has had a street ministry team serving the homeless and needy on The Boulevard of the Allies, weekly, in the City of Pittsburgh.  In these past years we have served hundreds of people.  Each person is fed a hot meal and is encouraged by our ministry team who offer positive words, fellowship and prayer.

We rejoice when we hear testimonies like Stephen, who says God answered our prayers for him to get a place to live and to get off the streets.  His faith was strengthened, and we know others are encouraged to trust and believe in God as they hear what God did for Stephen.  We serve a faithful God who cares for us and who will bless those who truly seek after Him and obey Him.

Weekly, we are feeding and ministering to approximately 90 people.  Before the hot meal is served, the word of God is shared.  The focus of preaching has been on obedience to God’s word and for each to choose to turn from the world’s ways and to walk in the ways of the Lord.  Our team of volunteers have been able to pray with almost all who come, and many have believed and confessed Jesus as their Lord.

Each week, after the feeding and ministry time is finished, our ministry team joins in intercessory prayer.  We gather in a circle and pray for God to continue to bring these people out of captivity, and for God to intervene in the lives of all who come…the homeless, the street people, and the ministry team as well.

In these past years God has answered our prayers.  Our ministry team has grown from Ken and his family to many dedicated and selfless volunteers from all around Western Pennsylvania and beyond.  These groups encompass Christians from many backgrounds including Non-Denomanational, Catholic, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Methodist, Episcopalian, Baptist, and Discplices of Christ. We have several groups that are dedicated to specific date and many groups that serve a few times a year. Some groups prepare the meal and many others bring other forms of support such as sleeping bags, health care kits, blankets, hats, gloves, socks and much more. We have been blessed to to have groups that volunteer to do more than serve food. Many groups have sung Christmas carols, placed live music, given free haircuts, and served communion to name a few.

We are thankful to God for the lives that have been changed, and we will continue to proclaim the good news to all who come each week.

Since 1999,  HIM has given over 1,500 tons of food to families in the New Kensington-Arnold area. HIM is now distributing food to 200 families monthly.  Each family also has the opportunity to receive clothing and shoes.  In addition to serving the regular monthly recipients of food, we also receive many requests a month for delivery to the homes of those who are not able to come to the distribution facility.  Each family is given encouragement in the Lord while receiving their food.  Bibles and Books of Hope are offered and given to all who desire.

The numbers of needy families has increased greatly this past year.  We thank God that we can meet the physical needs, as well as bring hope through Jesus Christ to all who receive.

We give praise to our Lord for all the volunteers who help each month and for Mount Calvary Baptist Church, New Kensington for allowing us to use their church.

HIM has been supporting the Shock Family in China.  The Shocks are foster parents for many needy children who are in transition between orphanage care and adoption placement.

The Shocks oversee Hope’s House, a foster care network home that takes orphans in to nurse them to health, all while pouring the love of Jesus into these needy children.

HIM will continue to support the Shock family and believes that many lives will be changed through the Shocks. Please pray for protection and provision for the Shock Family as they care for these needy children and spread the Gospel message in a country where they can be arrested for sharing their faith.

HIM also partners with another ministry who sends Bibles into China. We believe that God’s word will cause people to believe in Jesus Christ.

Visit to Ocna Mores, Romania to minister at the Good Samaritain Mission

Visit to Ocna Mores, Romania to minister at the Good Samaritain Mission

In September 2001 Gina and I went to Ocna Mores, Romania to minister at the Good Samaritain Mission.  Good Samaritain Mission currently reaches people for Christ in four villages… Ciunga, MicoSlaca, VeresMort, and Ocna Mores by daily providing a hot meal for all children who wish to come.  First the word of God is taught and then the meal is served.

These villages are poverty stricken areas where people live with very limited resources.  We also were able to minister in a gypsy village called Silivas.  This village is approximately 10 miles from the main village of Ocna Mores.  The families live in mud huts which have no protection from inclement weather, no running water or sanitary facilities.  Many of the children were naked prior to Good Samaritain bringing clothes and goods to this village.

We took food, which included huge loaves of bread.

I shared a short message about Jesus being the “bread of life” and that as we gave the bread to them freely, that Jesus would also freely give eternal life.  The people were very receptive to the Gospel.

Gina and I were also able to minister to 36 children in the orphanage which Good Samaritain operates.

We were able to pour much love in the children at the orphanage. We interacted with children as they were being fed, we played ball and rode bikes, we joined in reading bible stories, praying and singing worship songs to the Lord.

We were very blessed to spend this time pouring the love of the Lord into these children.

We could vividly see the Lord working in the lives of these abandoned children.  The children are receiving a foundation of faith.  Their futures spiritually will be positive because of the excellent job the orphanage is doing at training the children in the ways of the Lord.

Our hearts were torn when we had to leave Romania because we wanted to be able to offer these children a better life.

Ken Howard’s Goal and Vision for HIIM

Ken Howard’s Goal and Vision for HIIM

My goal and vision last year was that we would be able to begin fulfilling James 1:27 by reaching and helping the needy and orphans.  We certainly did meet the Lord face to face as we touched the lives of the needy children.

We will believe God to touch the lives of more orphans and needy in the upcoming year and will continue to reach as many needy people on the streets of Pittsburgh and New Kensington with the Gospel message of Jesus Christ.

1 Tim 6:18 says “let them do good, that they may be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come that they may lay hold of eternal life.”

Please keep us in your prayers for God’s will to be unveiled, that we may be faithful to 1 Tim 6:18 and fulfill the plan and purpose of God in this upcoming year.
